Probably the Best Available of the Choices on the Market : Lincoln Lubrication 1134 Heavy Duty Pistol Grip Grease Gun with Whip Hose and Rigid Pipe
The grease gun I'd been using until recently was inherited from my Grandfather 30 years ago... made in the USA and built to last. When it finally blew a seal, I knew it had earned its retirement and I set out to look for a worthy replacement.
The Lincoln 1134 and the Alemite 555 quickly became apparent as the two contenders in the field. The Alemite was hands down my favorite though as it was purportedly still made in the US. However, recent research indicates Alemite has sent production offshore too, so the Lincoln won out being $10 cheaper at the end of the day.
For all practical purposes, it's about as good as it can be. Despite FedEx apparently running over the package with a truck, the grease gun was unharmed upon arrival. Machining and finish seem to be adequate if not spectacular, and it's HEAVY. Nice heft and thickness of material.
Yes, the instructions take a little extra effort to understand, but once you examine the gun while reading the instructions they become clear. I popped in a cartridge of Valvoline synthetic moly grease, followed the directions to clear air from the chamber, and greased my truck. Voila.
As has been noted, yes, the coupler is a little tight. I followed suit with a previous reviewer and took a Dremel with a small stone and kind of rounded the sharp lips of the coupler jaws a bit, and now it's perfect. But even if you don't want to do that, Napa has replacement couplers available for $3.29. It's not the end of the world, people.
Why not five stars? Because Lincoln - a grand old name in the United States, the legendary leader of lubrication equipment - saw fit to manufacture this in INDIA, of all places. Shame on you, Lincoln. It's a sad day.
